My hometown, a village locating beside a small river, is a wonderful placewith beautiful scenery surrounded. Because of the poor geographical environmentand without an asphalt road, the whole village is poor and people’s lives aretough. Generally, people grow rice and some other crops for a living. Most youngpeople work at the city, leaving their parents and children at home, which isthe status of the vast majority of rural area. It seems that only in this waycan rural people live a better life.

The weather here is good. It is not so cold in winter or so hot in the sea near my town is full of all sorts of fish. The fishermen of my hometown are all living a happy life.

My hometown lies on the Plain of North China. The famous Grand Canal ofChina is to the east of our village. This is the place where my forefathers havelived for generations. When I was a boy I often played with other children nearthe bank of the canal. I watched the passing boats, and I wished to travel allover the world.

There are about 800 people in our village. A pond, teeming with fish, liesin front of the village. I used to swim there in summer and skate in winter. Itwas in this pond that I spent the happiest days of my childhood.

To the north of our village are great fields. When spring comes, the cropsbegin to grow, turning the fields green. When crops turn yellow in autumn, thepeasants start to harvest them.

The majority of the villagers have become much better off. About a quarterof the households have bought television sets and tape recorders. A reading-roomand a library have been built. Every evening many young people go to the eveningschool to learn science and read newspapers.

Two roads cross in front of our village. On summer evenings, people situnder the trees enjoying the cool breeze. The houses in our village are welllaid out.

By the end of last year, 35 students in our village had graduated fromsenior middle school, and 12 students were enrolled at colleges.

This is my hometown. I hope you will make a visit here one day.

But in the old days,Tianjin used to be a poor and backward citycharacteristic of semi-colonialism and few rich persons livedin luxury houses while the majority of the working people lived in old,shabbyhuts or buildings on narrow and muddy working class led a verymiserable life.

Today people in Tianjin are going all out to build their city into abeautiful and prosperous place to live in.
