第二句比第一句高明，不僅是因爲字數優勢，詞彙獨特，更重要的是它詮釋了雅思寫作中的一個語法亮點：使用介詞短語(亦稱介賓短語)with diligence 作狀語，修飾謂語動詞study。副詞作狀語可謂婦孺皆知，相當於公共插座，誰都能過來充電。

還需注意：以後各位在描述別人勤奮的時候，別再沒完沒了地使用"hard working", "work hard"等曾祖母級別的詞彙了，推薦如下詞彙：

2)industrious industriousness

下面是介詞短語用作狀語的例證：

The proportion of aged population in USA rose with the highest rate during 1995 to 1998.

The proportion of aged population in USA rose the most rapidly during 1995 to 1998.

前者是介詞短語作狀語(下劃橫線標識)。同樣，可以使用"with the lowest rate" 修飾動詞增長或下降，表示以最低速率增長或下降。後者是副詞用作狀語(下劃橫線標識)。

Example-3:

瑞典老齡化人口的百分比被估計在2020年到2040年期間會持續增長。

The percentage of aged population in Sweden is estimated to increase on continuous basis from 2020 to 2040.

持續增長表述爲increase on continuous basis，而沒有使用公共插座級的表述increase continuously。介詞短語 on……basis 用作狀語，譯爲"以……爲基礎"，再加上中間那個形容詞的傾情奉獻，這個介詞短語組合可謂特立獨行，笑傲風月，向讀者昭示：不是所有牛奶都叫特倫蘇，不是所有狀語都是介賓範兒。

還需注意：如果需要表達某數據穩定增長，亦可使用該詞組。

例如：水力發電對於澳大利亞發電總量的貢獻從1990年到2000年呈現平穩增長的態勢。

2.介詞短語用作定語：

Example-1:

他有一份全職工作。

He has a full time job.

He has a job on full time basis.

前者是形容詞用作定語，修飾賓語。後者是介詞短語用作定語。時刻告訴你的讀者：我是介詞控。

Example-2:

描述某圖表時：如圖所示，語言學生數量增長率最高的地區是亞洲，從2001年的20人增加到2003年的60人。

As indicated in the graph, the area with the highest increase rate of language students is Asia, which rose from 20 in 2001 to 60 in 2003.

介詞短語修飾名詞area，譯爲"增長率最高的地區"。同樣，亦可使用定語從句表達：the area which was of the highest increase rate。有型有範兒，形神兼備。不過，使用定語從句時，您得小心先行詞which後面的謂語動詞的形式，使用過去式還是單數第三人稱，心裏要有數。否則，就是主謂不一致，無情地破壞了句型的整體審美效果，相當於旗袍從腋下開氣兒，遠觀之，如同身披門簾兒。

來自國際新聞的複雜信息往往會超出中學生的知識範圍。

Information with complicated contents which derives from international news is often beyond the scope of students’ knowledge.
