雌狐與母獅
One morning when a vixen was taking her babies out of the lair, she saw alioness and her cub.
一天清早，雌狐狸帶着她的孩子走出巢穴，看見了母獅子和她的孩子。
"Why do you have only one child, dear dame?" asked the vixen. "Look at my healthy andnumerous children here, and imagine, if you are able, how a proud mother should feel."
“爲什麼你只有一個孩子，夫人?”雌狐狸問，“看我這羣健康的孩子，如果有能力，一個驕傲的媽媽應該多養一些孩子。”
The lioness said calmly, "Yes, just look at that beautiful collection. What are they? Foxes! I've only one, but remember, that one is a lion."
母獅平靜地說：“是呀，看看這漂亮的一大羣，他們都是狐狸!我只有一個，可他畢竟是一頭獅子。”

The bat replied, "But it is useless to do this now that you have become a prisoner." Then he flew away.
蝙蝠說：“你現在才懂得謹慎已沒用了，你若在變爲囚徒之前就懂得，那該多好呀!”說完就飛走了。

When Hercules was walking in the forest, he saw a ball lying on the ground. He kicked it because it blocked his way.
赫爾克里斯在森林裏漫步時，看到前面地上有一個球擋住了路，他就一腳把它踢開了。
To his surprise, the ball did not roll away, but grew much bigger than before. So he kicked it again much harder.
令他驚訝的是，球不但沒有滾開，反而越來越大，於是他更用力地踢它。
The harder he kicked, the bigger the ball grew. At last it completely filled up the road.
他越用力地踢，球變得越大，後來球竟將路完全堵住了。
Pallas then appeared. "Stop, Hercules," she said. "Stop kicking. The ball’s name is it alone and it will soon become small again."
這時，雅典娜出現了，她對他說：“不要再踢了，赫爾克里斯，這個球叫衝突，不去管它，它很快就變小了。”

A lion once fell in love with a beautiful girl, so he went to her parents and asked them to marry her to him.

The old parents did not know what to say. They did not like the idea of giving their daughterto the lion, but they did not want to enrage the king of beasts.
女孩兒的父親不知道該如何回答，他不忍將女兒許配給野獸，但又害怕激怒這獸中之王。
At last the father said, "We are glad to marry our daughter to you, but we fear that you might possibly hurt her. So if you remove your claws and teeth, we will give her to you."
於是父親說：“我們很樂意將女兒嫁給你，但又怕你不小心傷害她，如果你拔去牙齒，剁掉利爪，我們就將女兒嫁給你。”
The lion loved the girl very much, so he trimmed his claws and took out his big teeth. When he came to the parents again, they simply laughed in his face, and beat him out of their house.
獅子非常愛這個女孩兒，於是他修剪了爪子，拔掉了尖牙後又去找女孩的父母。可是這時，他們嘲笑他，並把他趕了出去。
寓意:
有些人輕易相信別人的話，拋棄自己的長處，結果輕而易舉地被原來害怕他們的人擊敗了。
