Of Beauty 論美

Irtue is like a rich stone,best plain set;and surely vitue is best,in a body that is comely,though not of delicate features;and that hath rather dignity of presence,than beauty of aspect.

美德好比寶石，它在樸素背景的襯托下反而更華麗。同樣，一個打扮並不華貴卻端莊嚴肅而有美德者是令人肅然起敬的。

Neither is it almost seen,that very beautiful persons are otherwise of great virtue;as if nature were rather busy,not to err,than in labor to produce therefore they prove accomplished,but not of great spirit;and study rather behavior,than this holds not always:for Augustus Caesar,Titus Vespasianus,Philip le Belle of France,Edward the Fourth of England,Alcibiades of Athens,Ismael the Sophy of Persia,were all high and great spirits;and yet the most beautiful men of their beauty,that of favor,is more than that of color;and that of decent and gracious motion,more than that of favor.

That is the best part of beauty,which a picture cannot express;no nor the first sight of the e is no excellent beauty,that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.A man cannot tell whether Apelles,or Albert Durer,were the more trifler;whereof the one ,would make a personage by geometrical proportions;the other,by taking the best parts out of divers faces,to make one personages,I think,would please nobody,but the painter that made them.

Not but I think a painter may make a better face than ever was;but he must do it by a kind of felicity(as a musician that maketh an excellent air in music),and not by rule.A man shall see faces, that if you examine them part by part,you shall find never a good;and yet altogether do well.

畫家不能通過這樣畫出更好看的臉，(正如爲曲子營造氛圍的音樂家)，創造它的常常是構思，而不是公式。有許多的臉，就他們的部分看並不優美，但作爲整體卻非常動人。

If it be true that the principal part of beauty is in decent motion,certainly it is no marvel,though persons in years seem many times more amiable;pulchrorum autumnus pulcher;for no youth can be comely but by pardon,and considering the youth,as to make up the comeliness.

雖然美之菁華無疑在於優雅的舉止，但有些老人更顯得可愛，這印證了一句拉丁諺語：“暮色之色更美。”而儘管有的年輕人具有美貌，卻由於缺乏完美的修養而不配得到最好的讚美。

Beauty is as summer fruits,which are easy to corrupt,and cannot last;and for the most part it makes a dissolute youth,and an age a little out of countenance;but yet certainly again,if it light well,it maketh virtue shine,and vices blush.

美猶如盛夏的水果，是容易腐爛而難保持的。世上有許多美人，他們有過放蕩的青春，卻迎受着愧悔的晚年。因此，應該把美的形貌與美的德行結合起來。這樣，美才會發出奪目的光輝。

Happiness is a journey

幸福是個過程

We always convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, thananother. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content whenthey are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly behappy when they are out of that stage.

我們總是說服自己，認爲當我們結婚、生子後日子會過的更加舒心些。然後我們又被那些小鬼的不懂事搞得不順心，當他們大了些後，情況會好些吧。當孩子到了青春期的時候，(有時)對於如何跟他們好好交流又會使我們很無措。我們都深信當他們過了那個年齡段後，事情就會有些轉機。

We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her acttogether. When we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nice vocation when we retire. Thetruth is, there's no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filledwith challenges. It's best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.

我們總是對自己說，當另一半有條理的過活時，(我們的)人生就會很圓滿。當我們買了一臺漂亮的車子後，我們認爲可以在年老退休後開去度假。可事實上，再也沒有比當下更好的時間段了，要不是現在這時，那麼還能是什麼時候呢?我們的人生滿是各種神奇的未知數。不管怎麼說，對你我而言，最好是承認活在當下裏的意義然後及時“自己給自己找樂”。

One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred Souza. He said, "for a long time it had seemed tome that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way,someting to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debtto be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

我最看中一段爾弗雷德·蘇澤說過的話。他說“一直以來，我感覺的是真正的生活就要來了。但是在前面總有些東西攔在那裏，一些問題必須先被搞定後才能進行下一項，比如未完成的工作，(做事時)等着輪到自己的那段時間、等待着交錢的帳單。當這些事解決後你才能開始自己的一天。後來我才覺悟到解決這些生活瑣事的時候就是我的人生。”

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is theway. So treasure every moment that you have.

這樣的想法使我認識到，幸福是沒有方式去追求尋找的。因爲尋找幸福的過程本身就是幸福。所以珍惜你所擁有的點點滴滴。

And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you goback to school; until you get married, until you get divorced; until you have kids; until youretire; until you get a new car or home; until spring; until you are born again to decide thatthere is no better time than right now to be happy…

而且還要牢記時光不會等待垂青你我。於事莫等到你畢業之後、重返校園之時再去等待(幸福);莫身陷圍城之中，來來往往，進進出出後纔去等待(幸福);莫等到你膝下饒子、莫等到你老來歸園、莫等到你了自己的新車、莫等到你喬遷新居、莫等到早春遲來、莫等到你重獲新生後才認識到人生本是‘莫待來日，及時行樂 ’……

Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, work like you don't need money, love like you'venever been hurt, and dance like no one's watching.

尋找幸福的過程本身就是幸福，這條路上沒有終點站。那麼，你就要像不愁薪水那般去工作;敞開心扉那般去歡愛;旁若無人那般去歌舞。
